Settings

Time Tracking Settings

Configure attendance thresholds, approval rules, project access, and desktop tracking behavior for your organization.

Time Tracking Settings give admins organization-wide control over how Time Tracking works - how attendance is calculated from tracked hours, whether time edits need approval, who can create projects, and how the desktop tracking agent captures activity.

Attendance settings

Controls how tracked time converts into an attendance status:

  • Present Hours - the minimum tracked time required to be marked Present. Meeting or exceeding this counts as a full working day.

  • Partial Hours - the minimum tracked time required to be marked Partial - below the Present threshold, but still a partial working day.

Time entry approval

When enabled, manual or edited time entries require approval before they're applied to an employee's records - the same approval step covered in Time Edit Request.

Project settings

Controls who can create projects and how employees interact with them.

  • Default Project Access - by default, only admins and managers can create projects. Employees can select from projects already assigned to them, or track time without selecting a project.

  • Allow Employees to Create Projects - when enabled, employees with no assigned project can create one directly from the timer, setting a Project Name and Project Color. They're automatically added as the project's only member. This doesn't affect existing projects or ones managed by admins/managers.

Desktop Agent settings

Controls how the desktop tracking app detects activity and captures data while an employee is tracking time.

  • Periodic Screenshots - capture screenshots periodically during active tracking, for activity review

  • Blur Screenshots - apply a blur to captured screenshots, reducing visibility of sensitive on-screen information while still showing general activity

  • Screenshot Quality - JPEG quality for stored screenshots and live-view frames, from 10–100% (default: 70%). Higher = sharper images and text, but more storage/bandwidth used.

  • Screenshot Retention - how many days screenshots are kept before automatic deletion. Set to 0 to keep them indefinitely.

  • App & Website Tracking - record which apps and websites are used during tracked time. This data feeds into Productivity Rules, which classify activity as Productive, Unproductive, or Neutral in activity reports.

⚠️ Track Without an Active Timer

This setting changes what "tracking" means for your organization, so it's worth understanding clearly before enabling it:

When turned on, the Desktop Agent can keep capturing screenshots and app usage even when an employee hasn't started a timer. Admins can then view the employee's live screen and activity at any point - not just during active tracking sessions. Employees are not notified while idle when this setting is on.

Because this expands monitoring beyond active work sessions, make sure this is reflected in your organization's monitoring policy or employee handbook, so employees know what to expect - the same consideration we flagged for Live Monitoring.
