Classify apps and websites as Productive, Unproductive, or Neutral - so activity reports are easier to read at a glance.
Productivity Rules let admins decide how specific apps and websites should be categorized. Once set, PrimeHR applies these categories automatically across activity reports - colour-coding tracked time so productivity patterns are easy to spot, without reviewing every entry manually.
Access: Time Tracking → Productivity Rules
The three categories
Productive - activities that contribute to work and business tasks
Unproductive - activities unrelated to work
Neutral - activities that can't be clearly classified either way
How to add a productivity rule
Go to Time Tracking → Productivity Rules.
Click + Add Rule (or similar).
Select the Match Type:
Application - matches based on the app's name
Website (URL) - matches based on the website's URL
Depending on the Match Type, enter what to match on:
Application name contains - enter text to match (e.g., "Visual Studio Code"). The rule matches if the active application's name contains this text - matching is case-insensitive, so it doesn't matter how you capitalize it.
For Website (URL), enter the URL or domain pattern to match, the same way.
Select the Category - Productive, Unproductive, or Neutral.
Add a Label, optionally, to describe the rule (e.g., "Development Tools").
Click Create Rule.
Once saved, the rule automatically applies to any matching activity recorded through Time Tracking going forward.
Productivity rules list
Every rule you've created shows:
Match Type - Application or Website
Pattern - the text or URL it matches
Category - Productive, Unproductive, or Neutral
Label - the rule's description
If no rules have been created yet, the page shows: "No productivity rules yet — add one to start color-coding activity."
How rules appear in activity reports
Once a rule is set, any time spent on a matching app or website is automatically categorized and colour-coded on the Activity page and elsewhere in Time Tracking reports.
Example: if you create a rule matching "Visual Studio Code" as Productive, any time spent in that app shows up under the productive category in activity reports - the same way it appears on the Activity page's App Usage breakdown.
